One of my guiding principles of parenting is to encourage my three children to take on new experiences and live life without regrets, especially activities that push them out of their comfort zone. I am a believer that there is great personal growth that comes from embracing these opportunities.
For me, I’ve often challenged myself with fitness, team sports or running challenges and occasionally put myself into some activities that focus on the arts. However, dancing, particularly in front of an audience, was not on my bingo card. When my sister-in-law, Bonnie Micheli, who is also participating in Dancing with the Giordano Stars, came to me with a last-minute opportunity to join her in this experience, I took a deep breath, swallowed hard, did a little bit of research and followed my own advice. I said yes to this ‘family’ event.
Along the way I learned that Giordano Dance Chicago is more than a dance company; it's a community that's spent decades bringing people together through movement, teaching, and heart. Joining this competition is my way of giving back to that spirit, showing up, being vulnerable, and inspiring my children and others to chase the things they've been putting off too. BIG PLUS, I get to give back to my community by helping Giordano Dance Chicago raise funds, so future shining stars can have easier access to their programs.
No regrets. Just a little rhythm (hopefully), a bit of courage, and one great story to tell!
